Social support

STREAT’s social support team provides individual, holistic and integrated support to trainees in our hospitality training and work experience program.

Individual wrap-around case management

Tailored one-to-one support with in-house professional workers assist trainees to manage any issues likely to impact on their capacity to do the STREAT program. This includes working closely with existing professional support networks.

Structured program focused on wellbeing

This is a group-based modular curriculum addressing common issues and enhancing wellbeing and life stability. Topics include emotional and mental health, teamwork, social networks and relationships, communication, first aid, managing tenancy and accommodation, problem solving and culture and identity.

Creative voice project

The creative voice project is a multimedia thread throughout the duration of STREAT’s training and work program. This project aims to help STREAT’s trainees find their voice, tell their story in their own way, and have a say on issues that matter to them. They have an opportunity to voice their opinion on decisions that affect them in their time with STREAT, but also in the wider community. This is a key aspect of genuine social inclusion.

Structured program focused on professional skills

The regular support modules focus on professional skills to prepare STREAT’s young people for work in the hospitality industry. Topics covered include dealing with the public, alcohol and drugs in the hospitality industry, writing a CV and interview skills, finance and managing money, as well as aspiration and motivation.

Industry excursions

STREAT provides valuable industry exposure in the form of excursions to a range of relevant organisations and food industry activities.

Graduation

Upon completion of STREAT’s training and work program, the achievements of each group of trainees is celebrated at their Graduation Ceremony. This is an important milestone for every young person, and honours the hard work they have put in, as well as celebrating the new friendships and professional skills they have acquired. It is as important for their supporters as it is for the young people to acknowledge this accomplishment.

Life after STREAT

Whilst STREAT is not a job-placement agency, we make every effort to enhance the trainee's opportunity at securing employment after completing the STREAT program.

STREAT has an Alumni program that every graduate is encouraged to participate in. This program will provide opportunities to stay in touch with their class as well as other STREAT graduates, and may involve informal mentoring of future trainees.
